 The Rutherford model, also known as the nuclear model, proposed that atoms consist of a small, dense, positively charged nucleus surrounded by negatively charged electrons orbiting it in empty space. This model was a significant departure from the earlier "plum pudding" model proposed by J.J. Thomson
